Dude. That's a real nice build. You mention it being 'underpowered'? What is your All Up Weight, and are you running 3s or 4s for power?

I really like the look of that frame. Nice touch going with all black as colour too.

Yeah I did mention it felt underpowered but I flew it on 3s battery so there's that.(worth mentioning I'm using dys20A escs known to give roughly 10% less total thrust)

Need to weight it, but my rough estimate is 600 grams with 2.2Ah(200grams) battery and I still need to test it with 1.4A 40C one(115grams). The flight time difference is only 30-40seconds but a world of difference in performance.

Overall It has plenty of power just that I would like to have a bit more vertical punch as I've used to with 6x4.5 propellers.

The most exciting part for me right now is the Libre Pilot GCS and cc3d. There's no doubt the unique setup flexibility is very attractive, infact it's dead attractive

Can't wait to put the pace on cc3d in rate haha

Today I finally found some time to burn some lipos. When I used 1.4Ah 40C 3s battery my Defiance had plenty of power and the control was crystal clear. Thumbs up for the cc3d!


So after confirming the build is set right and it works, time for the tune. Was reading and watching few videos and found this one .

I'm hoping that someone with cc3d tune experience could tell me is this a good way to do the tuning, any hints on what I should watch at during tune? Much obliged!

You can use the normal Optune for pretty close numbers (find UOV, use OPtune form...) or use the EasyTune feature embeded on LP firmware that do the same calc in live using TxPID

Instead of finding the UOV on Roll/Pitch and get numbers from a form (https://optune.opng.org), you just need to setup two pots or sliders in your radio and change values on Pitch/Roll using TxPID while flying.
Same OPTune calc for I and D and Yaw PID but done onboard.

Thanks so much for the tip man, this is really practical and awesome to have in the LP GCS

Did i mention i've put the cc3d with LP fw to the test today in strong wind? Anyway this thing rocks! Stock settings, KK 6x4 props on 3s at heavy wind, words dont do it justice! Controls are hard wired to the stick, did everything, even fast diagonal loop/rolls on fast interations, full speed side ways drifts with direction matching rolls and loops.  O M G

Now i know i've wasted my time with other fc's and fw's.

Only thing that coukd make this thing any more perfect is atom footprint, integrated 5v bec and natural frsky telemetry support for pack voltage. There's really nothing else other than that that could make it any better end user board.

Need to charge my packs and push it more, so much fun!!

Currently CC3D can't support ADC input for battery readings because ADC are used for Coptercontrol (CC)

You can maybe use directly ADC input in your FrSky Rx S.Port connector with a simple voltage divider ?

f5soh, for the moment I'm thinking to design the case for atom so it allows installing a tiny pololu 5v step down regulator so once the case is closed it's a single piece unit. It's probably a work around more than an actual solution but I'm eager to check how it all turns out.

 Mostly I want to see how does it 'feel' in practice to have independent fc powering and just place 12v in.

I'm sure Libre Pilot guyz want to make sure it's ready before the release, all I can tell you right now as far as I've experienced the Libre Pilot GCS and fw is most definitely worth the wait.

Here's a short video from my flying today, Libre Pilot stock generic 250 settings. Nothing special per say, I've just manage to find my 5 minutes today, should have more time tomorrow and hopefully i'll have someone to shoot the video for me haha

Its not about waiting, the copter to test Libre is still waiting for a few parts so everthing is fine.
I want to test as soon as the parts arrive and I hoped that it is available then, if not, i have to test it with another firmware an flash it later, wich may cause some issues, but I hope not.

yeah the Defiance is very fast and agile yet stable, especially on cc3d with this fw. That is what I can say with certainty.

Most folks think it's heavy, 590grams AUW with 1.4Ah bat and full fpv gear but the fact is it's all about the modern standard. We don't relay on 5x3 propellers anymore and electronics got significantly lighter, mostly 6x4 - 6x4.5 and that changed the whole game regarding weight/amp draw/flight time/punch. Guess it's a whole new topic

Anyway, I hope Libre Pilot GCS will be released soon so you can have a blast! Hope someone more technical could pitch in regarding is there any down fall in switching fw to LP.

I had none issues what so ever tho, I just used cc3d evo I got and just erase and flash the LP fw and that was pretty much it! Hope it gives some comfort

Ok 6" change everything... Im using 5x4 dal at the moment and the rebuild will be around 490g or lower ready to fly, its planned to be 4s setup,  we will see...
