BLHeli_S and MultiShot
« on: February 12, 2017, 05:45:02 pm »
Can someone please explain the difference between blheli and blehli_s when used with LibrePilot?
Does LibrePilot take advantage of its higher resolution for example?

If I'm using MultiShot the output gives 240 positions as output. Using OneShot125 has much smaller/finer steps.
Shouldn't it be the other way around?

As far as i've read, the blheli_s and its ESCs is capable of at least a resolution of 512 steps and up to 2048 steps.

Oneshot42 or Multishot are only needed for fast (or quick) Esc update while the "loop" is fast.
So useless while using LibrePilot, Oneshot125 do the same job and difference is not noticeable.

Tank you for explaining that.
So stick to OneShot is recommended.

But what about the finer resolution, isn't that desireable?
And again, shouldn't MultiShot produce smaller steps than OneShot125?

I'm not trying to start a debate of anykind, I'm just curious.

16.09 introduced 1500 steps instead of 250 steps for OneShot125.
Did you notice something or see someone who noticed the change ?

I'm new to quads and have not flown anything else than 16.09RC2, so no, I haven't experienced any difference.
I'm also alone in my hobby and have no other members of a club to discuss these matters.
I saw a difference in performance going from PWM to s.bus though.

Thank you for your time.

Well , I'm only a farmyard flyer , 180 size quads with cheap motors .
I noticed a significant difference with blheli_s over standard blheli.
Much smoother throttle  , and general increase in control.

Today i have switched between MultiShot and OneShot a couple of times. I must say I appreciate the finer steps in throttle that OneShot gives. More precise and smoother. So i probably would have noticed if I had gone from 15.09 to 16.09 today. ☺

I think we may be on slightly different themes.
Originally you ask for differences between blheli and blheli_s.
If you are currently using blheli escs , then changing to blheli_s escs  will be the difference.
As far as I'm aware they are a different system. You can't use blheli_s on non- blheli_s escs. If that makes sense !?
As for multishot / oneshot , that's whole nother kettle of fish.
Anyways , glad you got some flying in - you obvs not in uk where it's too windy at present.
( ps blheli_s escs have active braking permanently on , so if you fly fpv you need to run cam and vtx from regulated supply )

Yes my initial question was just that. I have blheli_s escs installed now and its on them i did the tests today. I first jumped to MultiShot directly and did not notice any difference until i switched to OneShot. Hence my question, what does librepilot do with blheli_s and MultiShot. ☺

To be honest, I have never once used anything with BL-Heli firmware just Simon-K I have had some of my Simon K stuff for years and have not had a failure for a long while, I haven't seen the need to replace my ESC's as of yet. Is there a big difference between SK and BLH? I tend to cruise more than race and sport flying. But I am going to build a new mini soon.

Well I haven't ever used Simon k   Only blheli.
As you say , for cruising round then what one is used to is good.
But do have a look at blheli_s for that new mini !
(Or Simon k equivalent )

Thank you for the info :P part of the reason I never got into it was how hard it could be to flash some ESC's with it but I guess now they have em where you just plug them puppies right into the USB... COOL!
