GCS kills USB driver in Win7-64 Bit
« on: June 19, 2019, 09:16:55 am »
Hi,
after installation of GCS 15 (tried 16 as well) my USB Scanner is unaccessible. The "connected" sound is there but the software says "scanner not present". The device manager shows no problems. Uninstalled GCS and the problem was gone.

This is the first issue like this I recall hearing about.

I would probably try (note that this installs GCS <then> scanner):
- uninstall LP GCS
- uninstall scanner driver
- update your anti-virus and scan the PC
- run latest "Malicious Software Removal Tool"
- install the latest Windows fixes (or hand pick to stay away from MS telemetry if that is your thing)
-- convenience rollup for Windows 7 SP1
-- Windows Update
- install LP GCS and test
- install scanner driver and test
- only retest LP GCS

Seems as if GCS locks the scanner with its own driver.
I desinstalled the scanner and GCS completely. Than GCS was installed with the scanner not connected. Started GCS once. Than the scanner was connected and forced to use the genuine driver. Now it works.
