No. I wouldn't put it on a wingtip (would probably still work) but anywhere generally near the center of the craft is ok. It's not a critical, must be on the centerline of the craft type thing.
Of more concern for placement is to keep it away from the magnetic fields around the power wires and motor if possible. They affect the mag sensor on the board badly.
