Hi all!

After loosing my first quad, and having that I'm still collecting money to my first FPV gear, I want to put some things to avoid other flyaway

I can really fly far away, I have several areas near home. But, I feel that it's dangerous again.

So...clearly. I've checking out some solutions http://eurekaproducts.com/product-category/buyrcmodelsystems/, very expensive, other pet tags, based on BT LE. But...I'd like to stay at CC3D and librepilot.

My idea is:

Which tx do you have? For the FrSky Taranis you can buy a GPS module, that you can connect to your receiver. The tx will then display the quads coordinates.

There are more options to recover your quad: when you use the Revo GPS, it will show the position of your quad in the gcs when you use oplink telemetry.

you connect it to one of your rx channels. When it loses signal or the signal does not change anymore for a while it fire off. Some of these alarms are not loud enough, so check for one that is known to produces a bit a noise.

Another way I use sometimes is triangulating the quad with your receivers rx level meter

All these methods work, but only as long as the quad is powered. So the most important is to make sure that the battery cannot come off.


But actually your questin was how to avoid a fly away. Those means yet are means to recover a lost quad. Yet if you have a real fly away, your quad may land kilometers away, and the battery may be drained before you find it. Actually avoiding a fly away is a better option. For that you should setup your rx failsafe. Best way is to cut throttle. The quad will fall out of the sky as soon as it loses signal (which can be "forced" by switching off the tx). You may damage your quad, but you will not lose it most likely. Other failsafe options like RTB are a nice idea, but will only work when you fly in an open field with no obstacles in the way, and when the quad has not technical problem preventing it to read direction and GPS.

Actually, I have that beeper but unfortunately, the battery came off in the crash. I had manually activated the throttle cutoff, but the aircraft was lost at my sight so...well...bad luck

Interesting options. Everybody says that anyone to stay seriously in the hobby would go to a Taranis, but up today I'm feeling comfortable with the Turnigy Tgy-i6 that came with the black widow I lost.

Considering the Taranis though, with FrSky gps module. But question again. If I finally go to fpv and odd, can I show the GPS coordinates in the osd as well? Do I need other gps for osd? Is the revo GPS valid for Taranis or OSD?

So if you are not considering the cc3d ground unit it shouldn't be a good idea, guessing

Well, it all depends.

First, with your power failing, there is no way to retrieve your quad other than by searching. All those methods depend on some power supply. So in your case it would still be lost. That is why I set the failsafe to throttle cut. That way if I lose control, I can switch the tx off and hope it drops not too far away.

Actually for your scenario I do not think that you need to switch to a Taranis. The FrSky GPS module has very limited use, as you can only transmit tha data to the tx log. This is useful, because even after a power fail, you will have the last position of your quadcopter. Yet, for FPV with OSD I would go for a Revo with Revo GPS. Those GPS data can be transmitted to your GCS or the upcoming Android app as well, and are much more useful that way.

So, I would go for the classical lost plane alarm, and a revo with GPS.

I think that is not mandatory to replace CC3D for Revolution. I can do it with the regular board.

So, Revolution is required for telemetry, mainly
