Mounting cc3d bit forward if center.
« on: November 30, 2015, 05:09:43 pm »
Hi ,
I realise there is a thread on op forum (according to google)with a title similar and answers but haven't been able to access that forum for days now.
So - new build with fancy "little bee" escs on a zmr type frame - the signal wires would reach the atom cc3d better if I mounted the atom slightly forward of center (~14mm).
Dat ok ?
Cheers
(Should read "of center " in title)

Standard wisdom has it that ideally the FC should be mounted at the center of the vehicle.

Just to mention how inaccurate most people's interpretation of that is, it should really be that the accel chip (not gyro chip, not FC center) is mounted at the center of rotation (all 3 dimensions).  People don't take into account that the accel chip is not at the center of the FC.  They also don't take vertical position of FC or off center weight of battery into account.

The bottom line is that having the FC a little off of lateral center will only be noticeable in extended fast pirouettes where the centrifugal force will make down point a little outward and cause slight drunken behavior during and after the pirouette.

So for a strictly RATE mode flyer... FC position becomes less important ?

I have a Revo Nano mounted right down the back of my 2 zmr250s... I'd say it works a treat and I'm not really noticing any unpleasant behavior.

Strictly Rate mode using Complementary (Basic) Attitude Estimation Algorithm and not using a gimbal won't have an issue.
