OpLink Ground won't connect
« on: March 29, 2017, 08:06:37 pm »
Im having some difficulty connecting my OpLink ground module to the computer in order to set it up to use. When I plug it in I don't get it as an option to connect to in the bottom right hand corner of the screen, however when I go to the Hardware tab and attempt a 'rescue' I can see the board, however when I do this I get an orange + Blue flashing LED on the module and I don't seem to be able to do anything. It is running boot loader version 4, I just don't seem to be able to connect to it. I have no issues connecting to the board on the quad and I am pretty stuck. Please see attached screenshots and any help would be much appreciated.

Seems your Oplink device only host the bootloader, whiteout firmware running..

You may need to do a manual update:

- Disconnect board from the USB port and disconnect external power (Lipo) if any.,
- Click the 'Upgrade&Erase' button. (Board still disconnected)
- Connect board to the USB port
- Wait the board for reboot and erase, and finally connected to the GCS.

Thank you so much that seems to have fixed it.  :)

When I connect my OpLink now it doesn't seem to display a device ID for me to use. Do you know what I should do?

You should reboot / disconnect / reconnect the modem after you set some power / enabled the modem.
Device ID is generated at this point or can be set to something you prefer using the custom device ID field.

If you mean how fast it responds to commands? Then it's just as fast as your normal 2.4 TX RX when used for control. I modded my controller with a built in OPlink I use it for my long range flights. it is dope...

What is the latency like ?

What is the latency like ?

There is bigger latency in image send via camera (NTSC/PAL fps limit), time needed for brain to process data and than to move the muscles so your fingers can deflect the stick.
The latency of your transmitter is unnoticeable against that, but you can measure if you think you should worry about that, but all that talk about latencies might be just a hype, so use common sense and always fact check/verify yourself (and that applies to everything, including what I wrote) ;)

I think an edge in racing competitions can be gained by properly tuning your copter rather than milliseconds in latencies...

I had the same problem. I could not access  the oplink config option with the last version 16.09.
I  Had to use the previous version 15.09  to configure the oplink. Once the oplink is connected to the quad, go back to the new GCS version 16.09, everything will work fine.
