Onboard Mag alarm always red! please help me
« on: November 06, 2016, 10:58:13 pm »
Hello everyone, my name is Mark, I'm new here too it is 7 months since I read your forum to develop my drone.
I apologize in advance for my English.
I show my problem:
I purchased from 3 months cc3d a revolution with gps M8N, this M8n don't have internal MAG.
My drone is a class 400 for photography, I want to use the gps for
hold position, return to home etc.
But I can not use these functions because the MAg the alarm (in magnetormeter status) is always red.
After reading many articles of the forum, I made many tests, I thought that the problem was the high magnetic fields create from the type of my drone (engine 4822 690), and  actually raising the battery I have seen that the value in MAG alarm is considerably reduced, but remains red.
I made the calibration of May in the country, so be sure to stay away from magnetic fields, but on Mag alarm is always red.
Yesterday I removed the Revolution from the drone, and only with it, I re-did the calibration and the mag is always red !! (Well, I said that then the type of drone is not the main problem).
I can not install an external mag, because I have all the pote Revolution occupied (receiver ppm, minimosd, GPS).
I upgraded to the GCS RC2 16:09 (even the firmware), I went back to read the forum, but I get lost among the various articles and not know what to do, I have a big mess .. I'm lost ..
Please can you help me, remember that I am no expert, but I was learning commitment.
Thanks in advance to everyone.
(If you need the components settings screenshots or photos please ask)
Mark

Hi, welcome.

First you may assume that very difficult get a working setup using only the internal Mag.
This means all power wires are twisted to minimize the magnetic fields but can still issues.

Using PPM as input there is no issue to setup a AuxMag:
- MainPort for GPS
- FlexiPort for I2c / Auxmag
- FlexiIO (receiver port) for PPM and telemetry output for OSD.
Take a look at PPM+Telemetry column here:
https://librepilot.atlassian.net/wiki/display/LPDOC/Revolution+Configuration#RevolutionConfiguration-FlexiIOpinOut/Functions

Even more simple you can use a DJI Naza GPS or clone that allow GPS data and Mag data in the same serial connection.

Hi f5soh :)
thanks so much for ultra-fast response!
ok, then I will have to change GPS and choose the one you showed me.
On banggood I found this:
http://www.banggood.com/Ublox-M8N-GPS-Compatible-with-DJI-NAZA-Lite-V1-V2-Flight-Controller-Phantom-1-2-Vision-p-991718.html

I saw that I'll have to make a new connector for adapt to cc3d, it's correct?
I read in QUESTIONS / ANSWERS that uses the compass as  HMC5983, think might go well?
If yes proceed with the order
If not you tell me you a product that will work? (I would not miss it for the second time the purchase of GPS)
thank you so much !
See you soon

This Naza clone works fine, you may need a JST SH 1.0mm connector like this one:
http://www.ebay.fr/itm/10-Sets-Micro-Jst-Sh-1-0Mm-4-Pin-Female-Connector-With-Wire-And-Male-Connector-U-/262584730114
and change the connector or made a adapter:

AuxMag are only supported using Revolution or Sparky2 boards, not CC3D.

very well! thanks for fantastic support!
I purchased the GPS and the connector that you indicated to me, as soon as I get the new gps and connector (11.16.17) I set up everything and i'll follow your valuable advice ..I'll let you know how did it go..

and thereafter, it will be corrected if nalla GCS will use these settings (see also green arrows in the attached figure):
in "ATTITUDE":
"Settings" -> "complemantary + Mag + GPSOutdoor"
in "MAGNOTOMETER":
"Mag Usage" -> "both"
"Mag type" -> DJI
?

You need also define some settings in Hardware tab like DJI as GPS protocol
AuxOnly is preferred and algorithm to INS13.

The vehicle wizard will set all you need after you select "Naza GPS"

Hy f5soh, hy to all,
I got the GPS, I soldered the wires as you indicated to me (I did not use a connector because I do not like having too many; and isregards the tape, it is provisional, below it the wires are welded).
I also followed the procedure, "he vehicle wizard will set all you need after you select" GPS Naza "
But the GPS is not recognized, also the wires heat up very much after a few minutes, are very hot ..
I've also attached a screenshot of the settings in use

PS the first time that I soldered the wires I'm wrong polarity, reversing the + with less and vice versa. I hope not to have damaged the GPS...(but the strange thing is that contrary to the wires do not burn)

I look forward to your friendly support
Thanks so much!

The black wire with white line is the Gnd so the picture you posted show reversed Gnd/+5v

Trial and error about polarity is not the best choice :(

 :-[
I connected the wires that way because in the picture that you had posted, looking at the GPS from above, showed that the red wire is on the right and white on the left, so putting my GPS in the same position I did the same electrical connection .
Let's do this, look at the picture that I have attached to you, you can indicate for each letter of the number to associate so I understand how to solder the wires?
Tnks!

The previous diagram i posted is fine, looking at the original connector front of view and take care at the small marks on one side.

From your letters:
A is +5V (pin2 on board)
B is pin3 (Tx on board)
C is pin4 (Rx on board)
D is Gnd (pin1 on board) the black wire with white line.

Tx from board go to the Rx from GPS
Rx from board go to the Tx from GPS

Not sure you get a second change if wires get hot...

You're right, I had not noticed that detail that you pointed out to me with the last photo, I made a mistake.
Now I connected the wires correctly, do not heat (are lukewarm), but the GPS does not work;the lights do not light up.
GCS says the figure ..
I burned the GPS? :'(

First you need some lights on GPS.
While the GPS is connected check if some components are hot, maybe the small regulator close to the input connector.

https://forum.librepilot.org/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=2592.0;attach=4726

Check the voltage in regulator output, should be +3.3V.

The ublox module case can be used for ground i think.
Or any ground (-) pin in your wiring, can be the one from battery.
