The short answer is no.   The long answer is it could but you'd have to build an interface board, add a position sensor, and program your new interface board to emulate a servo.  A lot of trouble to avoid buying an inexpensive servo.  :)

Gimbals are normally driven by a servo, not a simple DC motor.  A lot of the gimbals on eBay use the small SG-90 servos.  They're very inexpensive.  The camera stabilization functions expect a servo.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1set-Nylon-FPV-Pan-tilt-Camera-Mount-Gimbal-2pcs-SG90-9g-Servo-Retail-Promotion-/162181391137?hash=item25c2c3a321:g:qycAAOSwQNRXLFg7 is a gimbal and two servos as a package for $6.80.

They do seem to be using CD-Rom drives with their controller.  Until you mentioned it I had never looked at that project.  It seems to be popular since it's RCG thread is over 500 pages long.

Since you were asking in the LP forums I was thinking you were asking about the gimbal controller built into the LP software.  It and most of the smaller gimbals use servos.

Thanks hwh.

I ask here because you guys have a good deal of knoleg on electronics and I thought you will know about this motors. What get me is that it has 2 cables and the controler has 3 for a brushless motor.

This motor is the one used to open/close de Cdrom box using a rack and pinion with a small belt. Just a small DC motor.

The other motor used for disk rotation is a brushless, at hobby start i re-winded and used some of them in small setups / airplanes.
