CC3D Hardware Configuration - GPS problem (next r957)
« on: August 26, 2016, 12:29:04 pm »
Hello. I think I found a problem/issue in "next" r957 build.

I currently use "next" r957 build for my two quads, one running on Revo FC, GPS and I2C Ext.Mag, the second one CC3D FC.

Some months ago I used with success GPS (9600/UBX) connected to CC3D for telemetry data (MinOPOSD).
It worked fine on 15.09, and I've tested it with success on previous "next" r878 build.

But some days ago I decided to hook again a GPS module to my CC3D quad as the weight penalty of 11gr. is not so big against the ease of finding the fallen quad in the tall grass some hundred meters away  ;)

The problem is that there is no way I can configure the CC3D in "Hardware Configuration" tab of GCS ("next" r957) to use GPS. I set:

- Receiver port to PPM_Pin8+OneShot
- Flexy Port to Telemetry
- Main Port to GPS
- Telemetry speed to 57600
- GPS speed to 9600 or 19200, doesn't matter

Press Save, and get green checkmark immediately. Disconnect and reconnect CC3D (full power restart) and when connection to CGS is established, the settings that I've just made are lost and reverted to defaults.

- Receiver port to PWM+NoOneShot
- Flexy Port to Disabled
- Main Port to Telemetry
- Telemetry speed to 57600
- GPS speed to 57600

Tried to set these directly from Objects Browser in System tab, after restart the same negative result.

I even tried to setup CC3D FC from LibrePilot2Go Beta Android App via USB OTG connection, proper UAVO loaded, but the effect after restart is the same. I assume the error is in the CC3D firmware. Meanwhile the Revo FC Hardware Configuration tab is working OK.

As I said, I reinstalled the older "next" r878 and there the setup of CC3D for GPS is done flawlessly.

? Cc3d only has support for GPS as in it sees it that's all. It doesn't use it !

I know very well that CC3D has limits and cannot use GPS for attitude estimation. I don't want this. I intend to use the position and velocity data from GPS for telemetry purposes: OSD.

The problem I encountered is that I cannot setup CC3D MainPort as GPS in "next" r957. In previous releases this was perfectly possible.

Thanks for report, the issue seems related to recent changes in port configuration.

@jdl: Can you test your r957 updating CC3D firmware manually with file attached ?

Thanks

@f5soh: Just uploaded it to the CC3D board, without erasing settings. Now Hardware Settings are saved OK and the GPS attached is working and its data is passed to OSD without problems!

Thanks for your support!
