Aeritech's Variable Pitch 3DQ Quadcopter
« on: May 19, 2016, 08:48:05 am »
https://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a230r.1.14.23.BgCqVT&id=526299207455&ns=1&abbucket=9#detail

I like to get this drone working with librepilot. Librepilot support "collective" function right? That means variable pitch blades? Does librepilot also support 3D flight? (being able to do loops and barrel rolls with a Quad).

Do you guys think librepilot would be a good fit for this drone? The drone has its own flight controller but it does not support waypoints or GPS mapping.

If any of you want this drone I can buy it for you by listing it on Ebay. But first want to guage your interests and feedback on getting it to work with librepilot. If libre is not a good fit please give reasons and also give alternative recommendations ie maybe pixhawk (I don't know if it supports collective function).

I tried CC3D with the Assault Reaper, a similar Variable Pitch 3D Copter: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__66940__Assault_Reaper_500_Collective_Pitch_3D_Quadcopter_PNF_.html

There is an unsolved yaw-Problem in invertet flight (i.e. negative pitch), see my post /index.php?topic=1038.msg7475#msg7475

Is the variable pitch fully supported by librepilot or is it just adapted to as I can't see a variable pitch quadcopter option?

As far as I know it's not officially supported at all.   The post linked to in the one before you talks about setting it up as a heli but it sounds like he had problems and gave up.

This is interesting as a thought experiment.  I've been using custom airframe mixes a lot and it might be possible using that:  define the motor driving the props at (0,0), then add 'motors' at appropriate locations that actually drive collective driver servos each rotor, perhaps combined with some output calibration?  Inverted flight might be possible with the right mix but bring Kleenex, that vehicle looks too pretty to crash.

Still, you're way of the beaten-path & this is a pretty advanced topic.

Actually, the reaper 500 is a variable pitch quadcopter and he had the cc3d setup and working on it, just not the 3D flying part which I'm not interested in anyway.
