Another aspect besides design, or more accurately in parallel with it, is that prices 'look right.' The CCC Cheap Chinese Crap -is- cheaper -because- they use 'lesser' (below spec) parts, or change the design to remove parts. These prices are in line with what it costs to use the original design.
