FPV Issue
« on: April 19, 2016, 07:43:13 am »
Hey guys not sure where to turn for help with this. It is not Revo related. Rcgroups seems to not be of help. I have this setup as far as FPV is concerned http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__66474__Skyzone_Plug_Play_FPV_500_Set_With_TS58500_TX_RC832_RX_Sony_700CCD_and_C_P_Antennas.html

I am using the antennas that come with is which are those mushroom looking circular polarized antennas. But I get about a 1/10th of a mile away and start loosing signal. Starts producing a lot of snow and then cuts in and out rapidly. From what I have read I should be able to get a lot more range from a 500mw unit. There is nothing blocking the transmission path either. Pure open air. Not even a tree in the way. Can anyone provide any ideas on what is going on? I was thinking of getting some cloverleafs thinking that might solve my issue but wanted to consult some others before I did this. Thanks for any help

Obviously 500mW should go several K' without breathing hard. HK is a pure shoot <-- crap. (Read: if it seems to good to be true it probably is.) The only way to find the 'far less than optimal' part is to swap parts out one at a time for know good parts. Antenna itself has nothing to do with it because even rubber duckies should perform twice as far without breaking a sweat.

I did quite a bit of reading around before i bought that set. It got good reviews on other sites. And i have read about people using this set and getting several km. They have it on sale right now for 50 bucks. I paid 90 for it. Ive bought alot of stuff from hobbyking without issue.

Have you operated vtx without a antenna? If you did you will have damaged it, and it will reduce range to rubbish.

Carbon fibre and battery block signals

Being low to ground reduces range.

Try rubber duckies.

Jesus I thought you guys literally meant rubber duckies......lol then it hit me.... OMG. No I Have NEVER operated either the tx or RX without antennas. Never powered then up at all without antennas. The transmitter is zip-tied to the plastic frame and the antenna is pointed down. so it has a nice clear path to project its signal. The Receiving antenna is mounted to my display which I attached to my transmitter. It is attached with velcro to the rear of the monitor. The antenna for it is pointed up towards the sky. I have noticed that if i move the receiver around it changes video quality but not when I am a 1/10 of a mile away. It gets fuzzy no matter what I do. The set did not come with rubber duckies. It came with the mushroom type. the quad is up at least 100 to 150ft in the sky as well. So no where near close to the ground.
