ZMR 250 Quad Only 2 Motors Working on CC3D
« on: November 02, 2017, 10:11:14 am »
Hi All,

Just been building up a Quad recently with the ZMR V4.1 board and CC3D flight controller. Got a weird issue at the moment where I cant get S1 and S2 motors working. The CC3D is soldered straight to the ZMR board and have all servo cables at each end of the board. I have so far checked all soldering and continuity All signals and voltages are being received by the CC3D board but cant get the motors to spin up at all.

ESC's connected to S3 and S4 are working perfectly. I am also receiving signal to the ESC's and are all calibrated.

Any advice would be great. I can send photos of the current build if anyone wants.

Thank you.

If you are testing it "live" with transmitter in Attitude mode, then if it is not perfectly level, some motors can start (at low throttle stick) and others not start.

Try raising the side with the motors that start; sit the quad at an angle; to see if the other motors start instead.

Try "Test Outputs" (take props off first) on Output page to see if you can get all motors running.

If ESC calibration is an issue, calibrate ESCs and set neutrals.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I don't currently have a transmitter hooked up. Just trying to get the motors spinning in Libre Pilot 'Test outputs'

I have two motors spinning on pins S3 and S4, but cant get them to work on S1 and S2. All ESC's are calibrated and i do hear a sequence even when connected to pins S1 and S2.

Please see image of the build.

Go to Vehicle page and make sure you have all motors (NW, NE, SE, SW) mapped to an output.  Then go to Output page and make sure that it looks reasonable; motors that work are configured like motors that don't work.  Make sure the banks are configured correctly, or just set them all to whatever works.  Understand that e.g. bank #1 may actually affect outputs 1 and 2...

Finally, if your board is broken, you can move some motors from outputs that don't work to outputs that do work (Vehicle page then Output page), like move from outputs 3 and 4 to outputs 5 and 6.

I'm seeing something strange on the banks 3 of the 4 motors are bank 1 ? any ideas on how to map these out ?

Please see images.

Also when i do move channels for the motors from 3 and 4 to 5 and 6 cant get the slider to work on the outputs page ?

OR

Could it be a faulty CC3D or ZMR Board. if that was the case i would not receive any voltage or signal continuity. Is there anything on the ZMR that was supposed to be bridged ? It fascinates me that i cant get any motor to work on that side of the board only.

Thanks for the help appreciated.

You were absolutely correct in stating change the channels. So once i tried again changing channels from 1 and 2 to 5 and 6 all motors are now operating correctly. I have full signal to both sides of the board.

For some odd reason i would change the channels but the sliders on the output would not work (greyed out almost)

Anyway working now. Thanks for the help....

Don't forget to change PWM update rate on output page from 50Hz to 490Hz or even better to PWMSync.

Thanks, all updated to 490hz. I think i realised its not the board that bad. As the board is flipped upside down and soldered onto ZMR i think pins 1 and 2 become pins 5 and 6 thus need to update in settings to get that side going.

Another quick question. The motor idle speed on one of the motors is quite high as seen in the photo. its around 1162 ?? instead of 1025. Anyone know what can cause this ?

Calibration, calibration and again, ESC calibration. :)

Can be a different Esc/firmware or a mechanical issue in one motor.

Anyways you found pretty different values in all motors :)

Hi All,

Finally got the quad copter flying about knee level. Just want to do more tuning, is there a way to make the quad copter less snappy. Its actually so violent with the rolls and pitching.

Would it be as simple as move the sliders down to moderate within the responsiveness section ? Any tuning tips or beginner settings to follow ? Ive been searching through the forums cant really find anything helpful.

Thanks

Correct.  To make it less sensitive you reduce responsiveness (roll/flip speed) and max bank angle (attitude mode).
