Making a new thread to break off from jumping on the end of others as I have previously. Will included .uav files as they are perfected. This my first fully featured flight controller and I've never had experience with the like before.
I used YouTube instruction vids to setup my heli (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ew1WdpScSn0[/url)

.uav files
V2 From SamSam correcting my original errors. :) Now the cyclic chatters constantly and there is still wayyyyyyyyyy too much positive pitch.
V3 Inputs calibrated for Spektrum DX7. I've fixed the cyclic, leveled the swatch plate and increased the elev. But. Roll 1 (aileron) is unresponsive though moves correctly in the Inputs. All other controls ok.
I fixed the cyclic chattering by decreasing the min limit throttle OutputPID slightly from 1000 to 1100
Now waiting for ESC to cool down
-
After you manually calibrate your TX change the neutral values for throttle and pitch to be slightly above the minimums/. It might stop the chatter.
-
I'll try it. Would be better than changing the PID limits.
-
hey Griphin.. here is the updated UAV, Since you have your FC mounted on bottom, you have to rotate axis 180deg minus drift angle. Servo Chattering could be an issue with servo or the frequency, 50Hz would be a good start. Do you have enough vibration dampering. what kind of ESC are you using

Hardware
Atom FC. 4mm foam base. Mounted upside down
HK250 frame with FBL head
HXT600 servos on cyclic
HK922 digital metal geared servo on tail
Red Brick 20A ESC 2A BEC (I should update the firmware to SimonK or something)
Turnigy L2508A-3500 Brushless Heli Motor (200w)

I tried your v2.2 and for whatever reason my heli didn't like it. I've gone back to last nights v3 .uav file I saved and it's back to being happy. I'll make the changes you've outlined in your screen shots and look up what effect they have.

Sounds.. good.. I think you are better off with BLheli if you are thinking of upgrading esc firmware. its not that difficult. This is a little video we made when we were test flying yesterday. it was too cold to go out to the field, so we tested it, in my friends drive way.

I can't see your vid. There is the space in the post but it doesn't show up. I've tried Firefox and Chrome browsers.
I was thinking that my prob as before might be the the PID settings of the inputs for the TX. Certainly I've been different results manual callibrating and I think it might depend on what the centre PID is when calibration is begun. Might. If the top and bottom limits are pulled out from the center then results will differ.
I might try to find someone with a .uav file using a perfectly working set-up DX7 TX. I mean it can't hurt and at worst I would just get a comparison.
-
I can't see your vid.
He posted it with an http link instead of https. In chrome look in the address bar near the end there's a small shield icon, click on it and tell it to load unsafe scripts. It doesn't really mean unsafe, just that they're not https links but they're on a https page.
If the poster will edit the post and change the http in the link to https it will come up all the time.
-
Strange.. I had the HTTPS link. here is the link without prefix, you can copy paste in the browser, add https\\ in front. youtu.be/35ElrlaC7x8

The vid comes up fine taking out the 's' as hwh suggested.
Obviously you have Roll 1 working Sam which I don't. The servo reacts fine with elev and throttle/collective so it's wired right . Keep playing with CC3D GCS learning how it works but I'm making the most of the summer light in the evenings after work flying other models. I'll post some more screen shots tomorrow.

Hey Griphin...I looked at your hk250_DX7_v3.UAV file. here is the problem. when flight mode is in "Attitude" and controller mounted upside down, your CC3d thinks its flying inverted. that is why you have forward and backward but left and right controls are locked. Which means no roll1 or roll 2.
So here is the Trick....,
1) in Attitude page; Change "Rotate virtual attitude relative to Board" to 180
2) Place your heli level on flat surface,
3) click on level button, and your FC should level out and you will have all controls. if your heli try to drift while hover experiment between 175 - 185
Option 2 - if you are a 3D pilot: On "input" tab, under flight mode switch settings, change roll and pitch to "Rate". (see picture) be careful if you change flight mode while you are in the air, you will lose left and right controls again. Also note in "rate" mode no auto leveling,
You have way too much positive pitch, one way to fix it take servo arms out and center you transmitter stick and insert servo arms to have 0 pitch on blades. other way to do it is.. play with numbers on output page. also you have to level your swash plate on this page. make sure your tail servo responds to correct direction. let me know how it works
-
Thank you Sam that fixed it. I was sure I had that setting correct. It was the only one I was. I think you changed it to fly yours and when I used your file I didn't even think to check it as I'd already ticked that box which of course I should have.
So it's working. The swash is level and blade holders zero pitch. Should remove the elev push rod and lengthen it.
I did note both the Roll and Elev are currently reversed. I haven't checked the tail. time to put some more loctite on and attach the blades.

Heli edited for my DX7 TX with facedown gyro .uav Version 4
No intentions of 3D but I do want to put gentle beginners and more intermediate controls on the two position flight switch.
-
Main blades go which way?
US made helis - Rotate anti-clockwise
European made helis - Rotate clockwise
Mine going CCW. I dont feel that's right but to correct im going to have to change the direction of a few things inc the direction of the cyclic for the blade tilt. Might go see how this works first.
-
Never mind. I'm having a #facepalm moment here.
I'm going to have to reverse the cyclic servos. I'll get back to you.
-
Fixed. Everything is level and going in the right direction now. I think. Took the servo arms off and adjusted the push rod arm length so now have equal resolution of cyclic servos.
Blades are on. Will test in the morning.
I think this is going to be one of those things that once you've done it the second time will be far far easier.

It FLIES!!!!! ;D
Well briefly before it started coming apart due to the fact I built it years ago when I really didn't know what I was doing. I busted it but have a spare frame and probably enough parts to build a third one. I'm going to re build it from scratch. Also might use a RX sat. on the Atom.
I might re build my Titan450 too.
In the mean time I have a new quad frame I have a naze32 for but might put this on it until I get my naze mount I've ordered. I got the naze to compare to the CC3D.

Hey Griphin 8) Congratulations!!!... at least it flew, and most importantly now you know how to build and fine tune your next one....

:) Yes. The .uav file which works for me.
I spent most of the day today at my club flying several different planes inc. my Corsair and Minimoa glider. Now need to add more lead to the nose of the Corsair and finish a couple of other project. Then, heli building. 8)

Too bad about your heli. I hope you get airborne with it again, soon.
-
Honestly I'm not too surprised, just somewhat disappointed. It's been years since I flew these helis but I've gotten OK flying quads. Certainly not the same but not totally dissimilar.
-
Griphin, I am trying to setup an Atom with a HK450 FBL. Getting stuck in the GUIs for setting up my Taurus 9x radio. Have you seen any postings with UAV files for an HK450? Thanks for any help. Lynn, Austin
-
One thing I didn't realise until I more familiar with the software is when importing the .uav file you can do so in parts. So you can get the input settings for a Taurus from any .UAV file and the Output from anywhere. I'd start with a 250 heli and see how it goes. Make adjustments if necessary.
