Title: Stuck using basic configuration... help!
Post by: Trailer_Park_Tony_Stark on January 27, 2016, 09:02:41 am
I've been flying toy/hobby-grade quads for about a year now, and finally decided to pick up my first brushless, an Eachine Racer 250.
I'm new to the whole GCS and PID tuning, so this issue could be as simple as me not knowing what I'm doing yet, but I seem to be stuck...

I was able to successfully complete both the Vehicle Setup Wizard and the Transmitter Setup Wizard, and fly the quad.  It definitely needed  some fine tuning (PID?).
Which is where my issue comes in...  When I connect the FC to LibrePilot, and attempt to go under the Stabilization settings, the box next to "Use Basic Configuration" is checked.  If I uncheck it, then under the Advanced tab at the top of the page, check the box next to "Use Advanced Configuration", and save my settings, when I go back under the Basic tab, the box next to "Use Basic Configuration" is checked again, and the box next to "Use Advanced Configuration", under the Advanced tab, is unchecked.

All of the instructions and videos I have read and watched about PID tuning, rely on the Advanced Configuration being enabled.  Otherwise, the fields to enter the PID data are greyed out.  Which is exactly what is happening to me.
I'm not sure why it keeps defaulting back to "Use Basic Configuraton".   I'm hoping it's something simple that I missed.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Peace

Hi,

Basic tab is the default display for Stabilization settings.

Basic and Advanced tab are just display options used in GCS,  board do not store how you want to display this settings in GCS.

Behind basic or advanced, the numbers are the same.

Hello!

Thank you for your response.   I'm just a bit confused.... Are you saying that when I check the "Use Advanced Settings" box, and enter my PID data in the appropriate fields (roll, pitch, yaw), Save my data, then disconnect and go fly the quad, that the changes I made to the PID will take effect?  Does it matter which flight mode I have the switch in?

I guess I don't quite understand when you say, "Behind basic or advanced, the numbers are the same."

Every flight mode have his bank declared (PID bank1 to PID bank3) into the FlightMode tab.

If you change value into PIDbank1 / basic tab or PIDbank1 / advanced tab the result is the same if you use  PID bank1

Hi , I have the same issue with the same quad and don't quite understand the response either. Everytime i set the advanced settings then save them, I disconnect then reconnect and find it is always set to 'use basic configuration'. its like the CC3D board won't accept the 'use advanced settings' tick box and reverts back...

Please (someone) explain in newbie language... does a) the board revert to 'Basic settings' ?
                                                           b) the board accepts the 'advanced settings' request and switches to the advanced settings with the PIDs on the avanced settings page active?
                                                            c) Is the board faulty?

thanks in advance!!!!

Behind Basic or Advanced tab, the numbers are the same.
Try changing values in Basic tab and next look into advanced tab.

When you check advanced tab you choose only how the numbers are displayed in Gcs, this display option is not stored on board so when you connect later the Gcs revert display using the Basic tab..

c) Is the board faulty?

No :)

Great! thanks for runnning through it again. I think that has sunk in.

The board accepts the advanced settings but when I connect back up to the GCS it shows the 'use basic settings' tick even though the CC3D board's advanced settings are still saved and active unless I press save again on the GCS to overwrite them...

thanks again for enlightening the unenlighted. ;D

Hi,
I've been flying the Eachine racer 250 for a few weeks now and also recently took the leap to update the factory settings with Libre. I'm enjoying the process.

I've found that the QAV 250 option while going through the wizard results in some pretty good PIDs for the Eachine. There is certainly some room for fine tuning but seems to be a decent start. I also found that adjusting the Expo to add some positive really helps to make the quad more forgiving. I have different expo values set for the 3 different flight modes so I can progress as I'm feeling more confident.

I hope you'll share your findings with me as I would really like to get this bird dialed in. I'm not ready for flips and rolls quite yet but I need to understand how to tweak the settings to allow that someday, hopefully sooner than later.

Please let me know what you discover.

OH!!! I also adjusted the thrust settings which was also a great help.

Best!

Todd

PS. Raining here in Seattle so I've been grounded for the day. :(

I'm also wondering why this is not accepting even when I was using OP it does the same thing. I've watched countless youtube vids but never really explain.

Not sure what you mean. The basic and advanced screens are connected. They have the same data. Forget about the toggle button. If you use basic and make changes and save then the values should be the same in basic or advanced. Same for the reverse. If you make changes in advanced, save and then come back to look at basic screen then the changes should be the same. You might not see decimal places in the basic config as that is a more basic view and its less technical to make things easier for users
