Title: Help! Revolution + GPS Neo M8N with compass.
Post by: Blauner on May 20, 2017, 11:06:41 am
Hi, I have configured my quadricopter, but although it's ok, when I go to arm the engines do not turn, I attach a video of me and possibly pictures.
Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RnlLJPzkJXo
The problem is resolved by completely removing the GPS, in which case the drone works and starts the engines (ready to fly).
I can not solve this problem, please help me.

Here is the list of components:
---
-Revolution
---
-Neo M8N with compass: http://costruzionedroni.it/ublox-m8n-cc3d-revo-gps-antenna-con-bussola-integrata?search_query=m8n&results=1
---
-ESC: Turnigy Multistar 30A: https://hobbyking.com/it_it/turnigy-multistar-30-amp-blheli-multi-rotor-brushless-esc-2-6s-v2-0.html
---
- Engine: https://hobbyking.com/it_it/turnigy-d2836-8-1100kv-brushless-outrunner-motor.html
---
-Battery: Turnigy 4.0A 4S 14.8V

please help me. :(

Hi,

If you want to share your configuration, simply post the config file.
File > Export UAV Settings
We can see all the settings, not only the one you posted in a few screenshots.

You can also made a log while trying to arm and starting motors.
Tools > Start log and after a few minutes trying, Tools > Stop log

Please note you should not use the Complementary+Mag**** algorithm, use INS13 instead.
Just a remark for later use ^^, not related to the issue.

Hi, thanks for the answer, so do you think the problem is the algorithm used?

No, just a remark

Please post the config file and log

Hi, thanks for the answer, I now configure the drone with the GPS, because now I was testing the drone without GPS.
Thank you.

For testing GPS usage or not you just need to switch algorithm from INS13 to Complementary, assuming you do not have GPS based flightmodes configured. Others settings can still.

Your GPS is not working at all.  The red X means it is not talking at all, probably wired wrong.  FYI: red block (different than red X) is OK since it means "I am talking, but have not got a GPS position fix yet".

Your aux mag is working.  Since it gets power from the GPS cable, so you probably just need to switch the Tx and Rx wires around in the GPS cable.  Use a model knife to carefully lift up the tiny tiny plastic flap that locks the wire into the connector.  Use a magnifying glass to see it.  Only lift the flap barely high enough to slide the pin/wire out.

Oh, I see that this is a GPS made for Revo.  In that case use a magnifying glass to look inside the MainPort connector on Revo to see if there are bent pins.

So the gps works, but is there another problem right?
Tomorrow, I make all the configurations with (log) and export uav settings.
Thank you.

Which flight mode were you trying to "ARM" in ?

And thanks for posting the GPS link. At least I know which GPS to buy now!

That GPS style (I2C mag) does work, but it uses two ports (GPSv9 and DJI use only one port, GPSv9 are expensive or not generally available) we also find that some brands require soldering pullup resistors to make it reliable.  The good thing about that one is that it has Revo/OP/LP connectors already on it so there is no soldering.

Hi, do not remember, why do you ask for this? The flight modes are marked in the images above, I armed the engines in mode 1.
Thanks.

When I did manage to arm, I could only do it in the non-GPS flight more. I could not arm in any of the GPS flight mode.

Hi, is this a problem or does it have to work exactly this way? I'm not very experienced.
Thank you.

Any mode that needs GPS has additional minimum requirements (there are others that are good but not required):
- properly mounted and configured GPS
- twisted high current cables (ALL of them from battery to motor)
- home location set
- working, configured and calibrated external/aux mag
- INS13 (outdoor/navigation) selected for Attitude Estimation Algorithm
- properly set failsafes (RC and FC) (this is required even for non-GPS flight)

Some of these missing (the ones that can be detected) will keep it from arming, some missing will make it fly away or crash.

Hi, I did not understand this well:
1) twisted high current cables (ALL of them from battery to motor).
2) home location set
And how do I set up failsafe on Turnigy 9X?
Is the home location set automatically? or not?

About failsafe, take a look here and see differences between FC and RC receiver failsafe:

Hi, I did not understand this well:
1) twisted high current cables (ALL of them from battery to motor).

Twist all cables:
- battery to battery plug
- battery plug to PDB (if you have one)
- PDB to ESC
- ESC to motor (3 wire)

Hi, I do not have a PDB, the battery powers ESCs via a multiple cable.
Here's an example: http://www.ebay.it/itm/XT60-to-6-x-3-5mm-Bullet-RC-Hexacopter-ESC-LiPo-Battery-Power-Cable-Hex-UK-/262849589942?hash=item3d330e72b6:g:faEAAOxyVaBS5~lD

Same rule applies, twist all high current (thick wire) cables from battery to motor.  That includes cables in "multiple cable".  :)
