Title: GPS position shown in OPlink with basic (complementary) setting?
Post by: Pertti on October 23, 2016, 04:41:07 pm
Hi all!
I have spent 1 year now to get GPS working with Revo. I have the latest firmware (RC) installed and luckily my OPlink works well also in my Note3.
I have read many posts about problems with GPS and magnetometer, still I hope to get the calibration done(X4) in the near future.
Meanwhile  I'd like to get some use of the GPS (uBLOXNEO-6M). My interest is to take pictures of terrain and use them to make a pointcloud of the site.
It would be useful if I could follow the drone from my cellphone on the google map. Now it seems impossible, only GPS-assisted setting seems to transmit the location to OPlink. And that settig does't arm...

So is there any way you can follow drone's GPS position without the GPS assisted setting?

Once the GPS gets 7 satellites and it's status shows green it should send the position to GCS no matter what flight mode you're in.  What does it show on the system tab on the right side?  How many sats is it using and what fix type?

It can take 15 - 30 minutes to get a good 3d lock outside the first time a GPS is powered up for the day.  If it has a battery or supercap on it the rest of the day it will usually get a lock much faster.  Inside the house most GPS units won't get a good 7 sat fix.

Ok, now thye link seems to work, also with Note 3. It took some time, but enough sateelites were present. Next step is to play with GPS functions like position hold and so on. Thanks for advise.

Now  I managed to calibrate external mag so that all lights are green.  The  revo armed in GPS mode. But  the artifical horizont in GCS went wild doing aerobatics while my drone was sitting on the table.
It was  impossible to hower. What is missing?

AuxMag orientation is fine ?

How about the 3 (XYZ) bars in Magnetometer tab ?

At least I tried to adjust the sliders to zero but once I turned the drone the sliders also moved respectively.

When the AuxMag orientation is fine you can move the vehicle and all 3 bars stay at 0.

This mean the onboard mag and external mag are in phase. Can be displayed in scopes also.

Ok. I put 180 degrees to pitch. That gave better results. Due bad weather here I continue flight tests next week. Thanks you for giving me hope with this project.

We had the first snowfall here in Finland. In spite of that I managed to test the position  hold in my backyard. It circled a little, but maintained height. It was a nice surprise that revo accepted my wishes. Also GCS worked in my pc and Note 3. Before that I had many problems with links and magnetometers. The GCS works well in XP and Windows 7 but it didn't start In Windows 8.1.
I have two drones, smaller 250 size with old Revo and 450 size with HobbyKing Revo. The smaller flies better, the bigger had some stability problems at take off.

I have RC 1 in both controllers, but they will be changed to RC2 soon. Hope to get the Android GCS working like laptop: uploading waypoins etc. Thanks for Advise and many thanks for this forum.

It may be that the Win 8.1 computer needs the mesa driver installed.  You might try running the installer again and selecting the mesa driver.

"Toilet bowl" is caused by high current wiring not twisted properly, or by badly designed PDB, or by model being too small, or by needing an aux mag mounted up on a pole.
