Title: Release Candidate - 16.09 RC2 Now available for testing
Post by: hwh on October 07, 2016, 01:16:01 am
After almost a year adding features and fixing bugs, the LibrePilot team is very pleased to make 16.09 RC2 available to you. Some things still need to be fixed but it’s ready for widespread testing.

This is the second LibrePilot release, second release candidate.
A release candidate (RC) is a beta version with potential to be a final product, which is ready to release unless significant bugs emerge.

Since RC1 we've fixed the spurious "unsaved change will be lost" given when switching configuration tabs.  Some of the tabs would give you the warning even if you hadn't changed anything.  If you still get the warning when nothing was changed please let us know in this thread.

Another visible change is that the oplink tab is now always displayed even if an oplink isn't connected.

Known issues:

The full list of bug fixes and enhancements in this release is available at https://librepilot.atlassian.net/issues/?filter=10800

16.09 RC2 Installers are available at
https://librepilot.atlassian.net/wiki/display/LPDOC/16.09+RC+Downloads

You need to “Upgrade&Erase” the board first - many UAVO have changed since release 15.09, and failure to follow this step will lead to problems!
Local templates (Tools->Export/Import Vehicle Template) can be used to backup important settings before you upgrade GCS and restore them after the upgrade.

Please report any issues first in this thread in this forum including detailed steps to reproduce the problem.
Make sure you keep safety at the forefront at all times: this is a release candidate that needs testing, not a final release.

New Hardware support:

New input modes:
New telemetry protocols:
New Flight oriented features:
GCS improvements:

Thank you guys!
Just tested on X-210 with Sparky2, RS2205 motors with DAL 50x45x3 props (no GPS) racing quad. Autotune perfect.
Tested minimOSD (I am using Arris PDB with integrated minimOSD (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01H6MG4OK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) very convenient, and it has USB, so it is possible to reconfigure without disconnect.
minOPOSD works perfect, MWOSD does not work at all (with MAVLINK communication), latest development of minim-OSD-extra-887uni does not work. I tried both UAVTALK and MAVLINK.
Minim-OSD-Extra-R800 works fine (battery from FC, Horizon, RSSI), NO flight mode switch response, and panel switch set for ch8 but reacts on ch7 (in MinOPOSD channel switch is 8 and works fine).
I was looking for a bit more advanced horizon indication (center point, etc.) but all what works is the same.
Currently minimOPOSD is the simplest and works flawlessly.

16.09RC only support Sparky2, not Sparky1.
Sparky1 has a F3, not currently supported in code.

Hello, I want to try this release. Can I install it in my debian (jessie) distro? (.deb or src?)

Thank you in advance,
Don Carpincho.

Hi,

Packages are only supported starting with Debian stretch and above, Qt and osg packages are pretty old in Debian jessie.
Assuming you are not using a 32bits arch, if you want to compile by yourself you may need to install Qt locally in ./tools dir, compile osg/osgearth.
This allow run Gcs from sources dir and should work.

Will the LibrePilot2Go app be updated to include 16.09 RC2 UAVO as the last update included RC1 UAVO.

I just noticed that if I do not have Autotune active in one of my Flight Modes than I could not use SmoothQuick PID adjustment. Essentially when I do not have autotune in FM the whole SystemIndentState section is grayed out.
Sometime it is convenient to have SmoothQuick on.
I understand that it may not be simple to invoke one feature when the whole block is not activated, but may be for next release it is worth to consider.

I don't know exactly what do you mean...

Why you want SmoothQuick if Autotune module is not used ?
Title: Re: Release Candidate - 16.09 RC2 Now available for testing
Post by: chromvis on October 13, 2016, 07:56:55 pm
Actually, you are right, I used to vary responsiveness by changing SmoothQuick, but lately I was altering rate with just fixed PID.
So, there is indeed no need to have is active. Sorry.

Remove all power from the board and try the manual upgrade:
- Disconnect board from USB
- Hit Upgrade&Erase button
- Connect board to USB port

AutoTune wiki describes what to do to have AutoTune SmoothQuick always active even if AT is not on the FMS.  Just manually enable the AT module and SQ will always be there even without AT on the FMS.

Hello. New user here. Yesterday I received a Eachine 250.
I was able to update the boot loader (4) and got it to configure fine via the wizard with 15.09

With 16.09 I get no response from the ESCs. If I go back to 15.09 it works fine. I tried a few times. Settings all look the same in both versions.

Also the PFD screen is blank.
MacOS version.

The blank PFD can be fixed with a config reset
File > GCS Config Import / Export > Reset config

Please post your config file while running 16.09
File > Export UAV Settings

Thanks. The reset config worked for the PFD.

Attached are the two configs, one from the working 15.09 and then the 16.09 that is not working.

Exactly what does this mean. I want to use the new release and i output telemetry out of the rcin port of the flight controller. I recently switched to sbus because of new reciever. So will i be ok using the new release?

Also what is difference between rc1 and rc2?

Using 16.09 FlexiIO supports telemetry and others options.

Hi

Just upgraded a Emax Nighthawk with cc3d atom, Simon 12a esc's from release 15.... to RC2 and I experienced trouble with the ESC calibration.

The Calibration wizard would not fire the motors up no matter which ESC mode I selected. While I got the normal ESC beeps when connecting the battery I never got beeps when in the second phase  once stop was pressed. I got a low value of around 900.

Eventually played in the Configuration Output tab. By linking all motors, selecting PWM 50, SAVING and then powering on I got the motors to run.

Previously I was able to select pwmsync or oneshot and be able to calibrate motors without problem.

@gtstricky and gazza95
For Esc issues using PwmSyncr with CC3D, try the firmware attached.

Go to the firmware tab, hit rescue.
Open > load the firmware downloaded
Flash

Maybe GCS complains the version do not match but should works.

@jtrout19
The OSD firmware still available at the same place:
https://librepilot.atlassian.net/wiki/display/LPDOC/MinOPOSD+setup

About crash under Windows10, try installing the Mesa driver.

CC3D and TXPID
While craft flies with previous settings there is an oscillation. I have tried to use TXPID to control both Rate KP and Attitude KP for roll and pitch and the aircraft is unflyable. With the update set to always I can see the values are in the range I would expect but it is very unstable. I've previously successfully done this to obtain values of for OPTune. Will go back to setting  things manually.

Vehicle Templates Dialog:
The window for 'vehicle templates' is too long for low resolution screens and needs a vertical scrollbar.

I'm testing on a netbook with 1024x600 (fedora23) and on Win7 with 1024x768. With a screen 768 pixel high, the window fits exactly to the screen, the lower border of the window is cut by the window-taskbar. With a screen about 600 pixel high, you can't use vehicle templates any more, the buttons are below the fold.

Maybe this is a feature-request for Next, but would be nice to have that in 16.09.

You will have similar issues with Vehicle wizard, right ?

Yes, but there is only a problem with 600px screen height. The Buttons appear slightly under the fold, you can see the first 4px of the button and they are touchable.

On 1024x768 the wizard is nicely centered and completely visible. Even the "Import template" dialog is complete when i hide the taskbar.

So: low priority, it's only an issue on netbooks with low resolution of 600px vertical.

Thanks.

I've been posting my experience with 16.09 RC2 in the Multirotor forum, but I thought the following info might be useful here too.  I was unable to complete the transmitter wizard in the new version, so uninstalled it and reinstalled version 15.09.  The wizard works in the older version and my quads are now flying again.
I don't know if this has been formally reported as a potential issue, but it was consistent in my testing.

I'm not sure if this was a change from 15.09 to 16.09RC2, but I've noticed that when I use the main port for my Spektrum DSM receiver, and run the aircraft setup wizard to select DSM input, it switches the DSM input over to the flexi port, and assumes I want to use the flexi port.  The transmitter wizard won't run correctly until I go to the board config and switch DSM back to the main port, and then go to the input button and change all the input channel sources from DSM-flexi to DSM-main.  Then I can complete the transmitter wizard.

Maybe you have a different problem, but I thought I would mention it just in case.

The PFD file is definitively not the right one.

Do a clean install and reset the GCS config.

Hey guys so I was playing around in the GCS today particularly the Flight Data tab and was looking into the PFD widget. I am assuming the using PFD Arcgis or PFD Readymap shows terrain instead of the blue and brown background image. Thing is they dont work. How would i go about getting these two modes to work correctly? I searched the wiki and nothing came up. Anyone know anything about this?

There is nothing special to do to get working the terrain display, that why you didn't find info into the wiki.

Some useful info can be the GCS version and OS.

How can I test Autotune ?

Hello guys,congratulations libre pilot team.
The last release is working very good in my zx250.
I have only one suggest, and is important suggest for use libre pilot in races.
Now is necessary enable spin at neutral for use ASWA.
OK,is necessary for racer pilots the ASWA always active, but in the first mode is necessary work the ASWA but without spin at neutral, for landing and takeoff.
Please study this option,is very important for racer pilots.
Is very necessary.
The idea is the same on cleanflight o beta.
Is the most popular racer firmware for the stability and for the option before mentioned.
Please don't think bad for be talking of other firmware.
But the libre pilot racer pilots, the family is very small, and we need more,we need the option before mentioned.
Normaly the racer pilots are using other firmwares flashed in the cc3d board,or directly they are using other board.
The cc3d is not dead for me,we want show the cc3d board can run in races.
Is a F1 board I know, but can run in races,we are shore with your help and a little modifications.
The future RC3 release will be the perfect firmware for run.
Libre pilot team,we are with your.
But now is necesary says congratulations for the RC2,very good job team, really.
Pd:born for run,and ready for win.we are bulls.

You should not use ASWA for landing, same for takeoff using ASWA if you run Attitude mode.

Hi,you don't understanding me.
The spin at neutral is necessary enable when we change from the attitude mode to acro or rate mode.
The ASWA and spin at neutral is necessary enable at the same time when we change the flight mode.
Because,we can use attitude mode for, takeoff and landing, and when touch the flour with the throttle stick down, the motors stop.
And after the takeoff, when we change the flight mode from attitude to acro o rate mode, enable at the same time ASWA and spin at neutral.
Please study the option,is necessary and important, and is more security, for the pilots safety.
Thanks for you attention.
I will waiting you answer.

I already answered the question some days ago, except if you want to land in your hand there is no safety issue.
If you want to stop the motors while landing, simply disarm the board.
In all cases the Spin at Neutral is here to tell the user the board is armed.

The safety issue with ASWA is covered, you can use a separate switch or reuse the same flightmode switch and keep the first flightmode without ASWA.
The solution you show here add mode confusion: sometimes the motors spin, sometimes not, depending on flightmode, while arming.

If your theme is racing, while you are taking off in Attitude mode the others pilots are already at the first gate.

Hi,

When using int13 mode with external mag(neo m8n+mag) on flex port and i try to save in Attitude screen i always get a red x at the save button. Saving seems to work most of the time but sometimes for example when i want to save mag calibration and afterwards reboot the controller calibration data is lost...

Is this a known issue?

Saving under uavbrowser seems to work fine...

Not a known issue. How Gcs is connected with board ?

Usually red cross comes from saving while the board is armed.
You can start Gcs from command line unsing the "-log log.txt" and look the log.txt content if something weird about GCS-board transaction.

Telemetry runs over Revos internal OPLink. OPLink is used for input and telemetry at 57600kBpS.
Here what i get from the log file:

DBG: Upload of "RevoSettings" successful.

DBG: Upload of "AuxMagSettings" failed after 3 tries.

Always writing AuxMagSettings fail. At any other tabs like Input, saving works.
I need to use Saving under settings then it works and stores data permanently on board. Otherwise settings seems to be active until i reboot the board.

I got following settings in Attitude tab:
Aux Mag only, Flexi
Ins13
And some Mag orientation: 174, -2 , -180

I got this issues since i use the AuxMag its a Ublox M8N with MAG connected to Flexi Port with I2C. GPS connected to Flexi-IO Port.
See attached image for AuxMagSettings.

Since you use the I2C Auxmag you should power the auxmag.
With I2c mag powered i have no issue with calibration / orientation changes / saving over oplink or usb.

? I dont have any problems with calibrating/orientation, mag is working fine. Only problem is that i need to use save function under settings. And at attitude tab saving does not work. I just wanted to tell it because it maybe a software bug...

If mag was not powered i couldnt use it...or am i wrong?

Oh man i mean SYSTEM tab not settings...sorry

So again under SYSTEM tab saving works but not under attitude tab

I still not understand where there is the issue with the AuxMagSettings not saving correctly.
In Configuration > Attitude tab or System > UAVOBrowser ?

Ok, so under Configuration > Attitude tab

Try the firmware attached and look if your I2c is error free.
Rescue, load the firmware and flash.
Connect the battery and next connect the usb.

Those stats are updated every 10s.
Example with errors free:

Okay flashed the firmware and looked at I2CStats...there seems to be no failure after waiting 5 Minutes or after hitting save in Attitude tab...
I made 2 videos so that you can exactly see what i mean...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hLdwzBKMHhs

Here you see that saving doesnt work in Attitude tab but in Input (and all other tabs). Dont matter if i use USB or OPLink. Lipo is connected. Mag has power.
And you see that I2C stats are okay...

In the second you see that saving works under System tab.

Can i use the firmware for flying? Or whats the difference between 16.09 RC2 and the one in the link?

Pretty low key announcement I think.  Thanks all!

The actual announcement is in the news section, I just figured I'd post that note here for anyone that missed it.  :)

If you start any version of GCS the welcome page also has the announcement.

LOL, I rarely look at the "News" topic.

You can also see the News posts every time you start GCS :)

@cc3dbeast, make sure LibrePilot GCS is not running when upgrading or try to install the new version right after a reboot.
If the problem persists, try to uninstall first.

Did you install the previous version with another user ?
