Title: What OSD do you Guy's use?
Post by: jhan1 on October 27, 2015, 10:39:16 pm
Hi Guy's, My flying has generally always been within about 1/4mile, but now I'm looking to branch out a little and thought a OSD might be handy to have.  I'm just looking for something simple with direction home and battery info.  This is going on a 450 quad with a revo and platinum gps.  What are you brave souls  8) using and why do you like it? Thanks  :)

I haven't used it yet, but I just bought one of these: http://www.playuav.com/wiki/doku.php?id=projects:playuavosd:start (http://www.playuav.com/wiki/doku.php?id=projects:playuavosd:start)

It's not exactly simple, but it shares alot in common with the (never released) OP OSD.  The hardware is much more advanced than the MinimOSD, which is another alternative.

I don't know if there's an "official" place to purchase them, but you can get one here: http://www.banggood.com/PlayUavOSD-FPV-OSD-Board-for-APM-Pixhawk-Px4-Flight-Controller-p-982864.html (http://www.banggood.com/PlayUavOSD-FPV-OSD-Board-for-APM-Pixhawk-Px4-Flight-Controller-p-982864.html)

MinimOSD (called MinOPOSD when OP firmware is flashed) is probably the most used by OP/LP users.  It reads OP/LP telemetry for the GPS.  Battery can be attached either to FC or OSD.  Lots of stuff to research about it.  KV mod or not.  Getting telemetry to OSD and telemetry to GCS working.  Flash this and this and solder sensor cables and set compile options and build firmware (or find a version that is compatible to LP and has the sensor configuration you want).

Yes it does look a little daunting...Lol!  But things always do at first.  If im going to do this I like the smallness of this one:

The MinimOSD with KV Team mod (normal and micro) works very well on CC3D with the following firmware
https://forum.librepilot.org/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=191.0;attach=372

Use battery on BAT2 pin.

Thanks nabreu for that.  Do you think that will work on a revo board also?

You can use the same Hex for Revo.
This one for CC3D has all analog inputs for Rssi, bat and current.

Using a Revo you can use the current sensor connected to Revo and retrieve "rssi" from the link quality uavo. So no input connected directly to MinimOSD.

I haven't set up a MinimOSD yet, but my intent is to have sensors connected to FC where ever possible.

In the future, more code may be added to do things with this information.  Maybe allow automatic landing when battery gets critical.  Maybe allow RTB when battery gets below half.  Etc.  But FC needs to be able to see the information.

Micro Minimosd is on its way :).  This should be an interesting project.  On the Revo Ive got sbus going to the Main port, GPS on the flexi and a bluetooth module on the receiver port.  Guess I'll have to lose the bluetooth module and use the Rx port for the osd.

Or keep OSD in passive mode can work, and share the same port.
Never tested that.

Decided I'm going to need one of these:

http://rctimer.com/product-1096.html

Im going to go the route of having all info coming off the Revo.  But I'll need to connect this to get battery info,  if Im understanding correctly.

I use this sensor, works well.

See https://librepilot.atlassian.net/wiki/display/LPDOC/Configure+a+Current-Voltage+sensor
for more information

With Revo MinOPSOd is more simple, no wiring to OSD board except video in/out and telemetry.

See also this page for OSD setup:

I use CC3D and MicoOSD and the hex File from LibrePilot. But on my monitor the horizon dont change. All the other I can see.

Any idea what I made wrong?

Welcome here  ;D ;D ;D ;D

No idea, maybe start a thread and put some monitor pictures and configuration you use ?

Hi,
i'm having hard time to understand this. Could you please elaborate how to connect what exactly?
In Taulabs or dRonin it's very easy to setup RSSI, as there's a direct option in the GCS (inputs).

Also is there any possibiity to use MWOSD with LibrePIlot?

Many thanxs

OSD connection and firmware info and downloads are in the wiki at https://librepilot.atlassian.net/wiki/display/LPDOC/MinOPOSD+setup

MWOSD support is being worked on but isn't in the next branch yet, just the developer's repo.  It will probably make it into the next release.

That's a good news indeed!

That wiki link doesn't say a word about a setup according this statement:

Hi MultiBen,
thank you. That is totally clear to me, how to connect RSSI analog or digital to minimosd pin.
I was questioning the statement, how to connect RSSI signal to the current sensor of the Revo board.

Here's that statement one more time. Please read carefully what it says:
Quote
Using a Revo you can use the current sensor connected to Revo and retrieve "rssi" from the link quality uavo. So no input connected directly to MinimOSD
...or maybe i didn't understand that statement well and i am interpreting it in some wrong way. :)

thanx

You're mis-interpreting the sentence.   It's two parts 'you can use the current sensor connected to Revo' talking about voltage/current.  And the second part 'retrieve "rssi" from the link quality uavo.' talking about using rssi from the revo's built in oplink radio.

Hi,
I have Revo mini with micro minimosd. In my other quad i use cleanflight wit cc3d and mwosd for the minimosd.
There i can use the barometric sensor for height display. With the minoposd and revo it shows only gps height. Can i display somehow the baro data?
Can i use some other firmware for ravo+minimosd than minimoposd? (i prefer mwosd)
thanks
Zoli

One of the developers is working on MSP protocol support that would allow you to use mwosd, https://librepilot.atlassian.net/browse/LP-291 but it isn't complete and merged into the code yet.   It should be in the next release.

Then the only osd for revo is the minimoposd? :(
So how to use baro for altitude display?
Title: Re: What OSD do you Guy's use?
Post by: f5soh on May 15, 2016, 09:30:59 pm
Current code already use the baro from Revo.

Altitude is displayed, assuming the "0" is the altitude where you powered the quad.

i use arducam osd config tool and choose "altitude" if gps not locked altitude hidden. If Gps locks altitude appears but shows gps altitude. Am i doing some mistake?

I think you should use "Home Altitude" field, not "Altitude"

This assumes you flashed the Revo OSD firmware.

Check at boot if you see "Revo" on the screen.

applyed the allrevo fw and now i have the baro altitude. Thanks.
But now i do not have battery voltage sens (its connected now to batt2 pint to osd)
do i have to connect to batt1 or must make a direct input to revo?

You cannot have Revo osd firmware + analog Volt/Amp input into OSD

If you use Revo firmwaree you must connect sensor directly to the Revo.
Do not connect directly the battery to the Revo PWR port  like you did with Osd !

Use a voltage divider...

If you only use the voltage input you should set the battery capacity to 0.
This disables the "TIME" alarm

Go to Uavo Browser > Settings > FlightBatterySettings > Set Capacity value to 0

Newbie question...
I found out that OP/LP cannot handle 2 streams of telemetry simultaneously. I wist to have a telemetry link and OSD at the same time on my Revo. It is possible with the latest LP release (Black Rhino)? I see it can handle MSP / MAVlink also...
Title: Re: What OSD do you Guy's use?
Post by: f5soh on February 07, 2017, 06:01:28 pm
You can use two telemetry streams with Revo, one to a port (Main/Flexi) for OSD and other with OPLink.
The only limitation is OSD output stopping if oplink is lost while Revo is used slave (needed for Rc control via Oplink)
If only telemetry is needed Revo can be set as coordinator and osd stream should be always active.
