I've been debating this a while, but figure i'd ask.
can i upgrade the ublox chip on the v9 gps from the NEO 7n to an M8N? could it be that simple?
why?
1. because I have one laying around

You can but it's not a really good idea. Unless you need support for the other constellations the 7N is more stable than the M8N. In testing the M8N has more of a tendency to have sudden loss of fix and position jumps than the older 7N.

($13 shipped) If you have the equipment and think you can successfully remove it from a GPS, this seems to be an authentic uBlox module. Ask seller if it is as pictured before buying.

You must be very good at soldering tiny components to do either, but especially removing from the $13 GPS without damaging the module.
