Is it necessary to mount CC3D on the center of the quad? :-\
-
From everything that i have read yes. The quad will pitch roll and yaw based on the center of the flight controller. Thats why i think it is needed

thanks.

Yes otherwise mysterious things could happen. But you can move it along the z-axis. So maybe on top of your copter or higher if you try to use the internal mag, what is only possible if fc is really far away from everything.

thanks

It's a good idea, but it only affects the accels. Mounting off center only causes issues when doing pirouettes in Attitude mode.
If your flight mode does not have any automatic leveling then it really doesn't matter at all.

Cliff I didnt know that I figured it would affect more. Learn something new everyday

The way to understand it is that (within reasonable limits, bad prop vibrations are outside the reasonable limits) a gyro is not affected by G forces, only by rotation. Gyros sensors are designed that way.
Imagine rotating a long rigid stick with the gyro mounted in the center. Imagine rotating the stick 90 degrees. It's intuitively true that the gyro rotates 90 degrees no matter where it is mounted on the stick. The same is true for any rotation angle, not just 90 degrees.
Rate / Acro+ don't use the accels (other than to keep the camera gimbal level).
