Beeps at video end simply means the board is not powered correctly and there is no valid output signal provided to the Escs.

Is the board powered (do you see led blinking / board booting) using battery power source ?
The board should be powered using +5V from Esc's bec or additional ubec.

I have been able to get it to fly, but I have to fiddle with the throttle (moving it very slightly up from bottom) and then it will beep three times and then one short beep and then will arm just fine.

The board is powered via a 5v solder pad built into my PDB, no power from the escs.

Maybe the min values are not correct and cannot allow Esc init at start.

Please post your config file. File > Export UAV settings

Try setting the first two output banks from PWMSync to PWM-490Hz, save.
Disconnect all and see if he issue still.

I set them both to 490Hz PWM, same issue still

Reduce refresh rate
Redo Esc calibration.

changed them all to 50hz pwm, and recalibrated all the escs following that tutorial exactly. still the same issue.

It's so strange because I can sometimes get it to arm if I move the throttle up very slightly, and in that case it does the 3 beeps, then one short beep and arms / works / flies just fine.

Looks like Esc crap.

Try setting the min value same as neutral or some other value that allow Esc init after you power using the battery.

Esc init = Esc initialization

If not initialized Esc output continuous beeps.

Where is that in the program?

I tried putting them both to 1000, and to 1070, no luck

What the heck... this makes no sense. Setting  the throttle to near 1704 will make the quad work half of the time. Three esc beeps then one short beep, or it just keeps on beeping. Literally half of the time, what...

Don't use PWM-50

It really sounds like your ESCs need calibration and neutral setting.

I've done the calibration multiple times, as it has been suggested before. By the neutral setting you mean the one in the motors tab? I have it at 1000 min 1070 neutral and 1900 high.

The quad will work 100% perfect with the usb plugged in.

I plug in the usb, turn on my Tx, plug in the battery, and it arms / throttles just fine.

I unplug the usb, turn on my Tx, plug in the battery, and it just beeps. (But that only happens half the time, the other half it works fine.)

Could it be getting a good earth ( / negative) from the USB cable ?
And a poor / intermittent earth without the USB cable ?

1000, 1070, 1900 sounds perfect.

ESCs are cooler when the USB is plugged in.  Inexpensive ESCs need different timings when warm vs. cool.  I have had this issue before.

You probably just need a different min to get the ESCs to arm.  Try setting your mins all to say 970 and if that doesn't work try 1030.

Hm. I tried both 970 and 1030, nothing changed. I also tried 900 and 1000
