Hi,
I tried the search function, but could not find anything which sounded similar to my problem:
- Revo board
- connection to GCS works, board is recognized and indicators are moving.
- When I go to configuration tab and change anything (eg. input to PPM instead of PWM) and press on the
save button it gets a red circle with white cross.
- Depending on which setting I tried to change I also get a red "BOOT" error (Boot fault critical).
I assume this happens when the changed setting is asking for a reboot.
I already tried several times to reflash the firmware (I even tried 16.09RC1) but nothing changes.
I hope somebody has an idea what is going on...
-
Hi,
If you set the arming to "Always Armed", later you cannot do changes and get a red cross.
Every change in Hardware tab need a reboot.
-
Thank you for your answer.
Unfortunately that does not seem to be the reason for my problems.
The Arming Setting is set to "Always Disarm" right after the startup of the board.
I tried to change this setting to anything else (except "Always Armed") but again "red cross" when I try saving...
Any other ideas?

Upgrade&Erase and wait the board remain connected after reboot and erase
*** If issue still after a Upgrade&Erase, please provide steps by step to reproduce.
-
Ok, I did as you said:
- Upgrade & Erase and waiting for at least 25 minutes.
- then I changed input to PPM and pressed "Save" --> Red cross
About the "steps by step": I am not shure what you need...
I connected the board for the first time yesterday (by the way this is not my first Revo, up to now I had no similar problems).
GCS told me to upgrade the firmware, which I did.
After this I started the setup procedure (e.g. changing to PPM input) and run into the "red cross" issue.
-
No need to wait 25min... since the board rebooted and remain connected after the "Upgrade&Erase", the process is finished.
Please try to reproduce using the 16.09-RC, in some cases the flash is not formatted correctly using 15.09.
-
Ok, I installed 16.09RC1 and flashed the new firmware inkl. "Upgrade & Erase"
--> exactly the same behavior as before :'(
-
Try starting the Gcs from a console, go to the LibrePilot/bin dir and start gcs with the "-log log.txt" option
(https://forum.librepilot.org/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=2327.0;attach=4158)
Do the Save with Red cross, close Gcs.
Post the file log.txt generated after you close GCS, this file can be found inside the bin dir where you started Gcs
-
I did as asked.
Please find the generated log file as attachment...
I hope it is telling you more than it is to me ;)
edit: this log was created with 16.09RC1

For some reason he cannot save HwSettings / GpsSettings UAVOs
Try using the resurrect firmware, original post from here: https://forum.librepilot.org/index.php?topic=208.0
Download custom firmware: https://forum.librepilot.org/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=208.0;attach=351
Emergency Rescue Procedure:
Flash and run the resurrection firmware:
- Run the GCS
- Unplug the board from power and USB.
- Go to the firmware tab in the GCS and press the Rescue button.
- Plug the board into USB.
- GCS recognizes the board in a few seconds.
- Press the "Open" button to navigate to and select the correct resurrection firmware opfw file that you downloaded.
- Press the Flash button to write the currently built firmware.
- It will start in a few seconds. First it will erase, then it will write (flash) the firmware.
- When the flash is done, press the Boot button which will cause the resurrection firmware to run
- Let it run for 60 seconds at least.
After the above completed, go back with normal firmware using Upgrade&Erase
-
A full UAV config file can also help.
Go to the Help menu > Export UAV Data... and post file.
-
I did the rescue operation as described.
After upgrade & erase --> still the same behaviour.
Exported settings is attached...
-
Full UAV please, using Help > Export UAV data...
-
Sorry, I overlooked the Data vs. Settings part ::)
A big THANK YOU for your patience with this noob!
Attached now the hopefully correct file...
-
That really weird...
Can you test if you have the save red cross in others tabs like Stabilization or Vehicle ?
-
It seems to be exactly the same behaviour in every tab. Red Cross right after pressing the save button. If it is helpful I could do some logs in different tabs.

Sound like a flash memory that can't be accessed / writed
-
Just to round things up:
I reproduced the "red cross" in each configuration tab, while taking a log file (the logs are attached and named according to the tabs).
As far as I can see, it is every time the same problem. GCS tries to write the corresponding settings and fails after 3 tries.
Am I right in assuming that in your last comment you are talking about a hardware problem?
In that case I would try to get a refund/replacement...
Thank you again for your help and the great work on LibrePilot (as I said, I am flying it on another quad).
-
Maybe safe ask for replacement...
This general error looks really strange.

Are you sure this board is a Revo?
I wonder if it might have the wrong boot loader on it.
Does it have an MS-5611 baro chip (small, silver) on it and an F405 processor (large chip in the middle) and a PWM input (largest small plastic connector with 10 pins)?
If so, the flash chip may be bad or shorted, etc.
